Soon you will see me
Cos I’ll be all around you
But where I come from I can’t tell
But don’t be alarmed by my fields and my forests
They’re here for only you to share…

Watching and waiting
For someone to understand me.
I hope it won’t be very long.

-Justin Hayward/Ray Thomas

I’m not sure if Justin Hayward and Ray Thomas were referring to nature when they used the words “I” and “me” in the lyrics to Watching and Waiting. As I listened to the song the other day with its beautiful, haunting melody, I couldn’t help but feel it was nature crying out for someone to understand her. I hope it won’t be very long before we do as we have done a great deal of damage to our natural surroundings and ourselves in our ignorance.

First Snowfall

We got our first snowfall of the season last night that deposited 3 to 4 inches of wet stuff on all the foliage. In the past, an early snowfall in October was usually followed by a long winter season lasting well into April.

The clinging wet snow created a winter wonderland along the path that led to the beaver pond.

Oh how I used to love winter as a child. I need to rekindle those feelings.

My mother-in-law’s apartment is surrounded by Burning Bushes. The leaves are incredibly beautiful so I grabbed a handful after visiting with her and attempted to photograph them in a studio environment.

I took a series of images of a group of three leaves on a piece of glass suspended above a colored background. I had difficulty focusing in a dark environment so I turned on a ceiling light to help and got the unusual abstract pattern exhibited in the above photo. Strangely enough, I liked this image more than those taken with the light off.

But I remember more dearly autumn afternoons in bottoms that lay intensely silent under old great trees.

Consider this...

Think of the Earth as a sacred place. Maybe then we can begin to properly care for it.
