I found inspiration this morning from two of my favorite photographers on the web, Stacey and Jules, and came away with the above image. Stacey’s abstracts, especially her most recent work with glass have been beautiful. Jules’ latest image was simply stunning.

I initially started photographing Great Blue Herons after stumbling upon a rookery during a hike in April of 2006. After photographing the adult birds I returned in June and discovered this one young bird that hadn’t left the nest. He certainly looked eager enough to venture out on his own though on this day, he decided to give it a bit more time.

I took this image in May of 2006 and never did discover the species. It looks like a type of Sparrow. Maybe someone with more knowledge of birds can identify it for me.

John Chardin over at Birdphotographers identified this bird as a female Rose-breasted Grosbeak. Thanks John!
