There was a photo contest at birdphotographers.net with a challenge to either shoot wide open or closed down (f22 or greater) in macro photography. Having been accustomed to closing down to f11 or greater I decided to step outside the box and shoot wide open using a Vivitar Series 1 90-180mm macro flat field zoom at f4.5 coupled to my E-3. The above image was the result.

It sometimes takes a while in the Berkshires of Massachusetts.

The above  image was taken in one of my favorite fields outside Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony in Lenox Massachusetts.

This is an indoor shot using natural light of a group of tiny Oxalis flowers. Helicon Focus software was used to increase the depth of field by merging a group of five images of various focus points taken at 1/6 sec @f11.

A week ago I was experimenting with a remote setup using Olympus Studio software to try and photograph birds that visit our backyard.

I placed a small piece of turf I dug from the yard on top of the deck railing in an area that gave a somewhat pleasing background and placed a handful of bird seed in the center of the grass. I then set my E-3 with a ZD 40-150mm lens on a tripod about six feet from the subject. Using a laptop within the house connected to the camera with a 15 foot USB cord, I remotely controlled exposures. The above image was the best result out of approximately 100 images.

Think of the Earth as a sacred place. Maybe then we can begin to properly care for it.
