Female Cardinal; © reserved 2009, Richard Lovison
I’ve had a more difficult time trying to photograph a female cardinal as they seem more reclusive than the male. I find them just as striking as their mate even without all the red plumage.

Funny, I was thinking I’d like to photograph a female Cardinal a few days ago. This is a great shot. She is so yellow. Ours are much grayer, not at all yellow.
This is fantastic! Somehow I didn’t know that the females were so yellow. Stunning winter image!
Somehow Cardinals and snow just seem to go together. Could have done without some of extra branches but we don’t control where they land! The detail on the Cardinal looks excellent. And I love the cap just raised slightly. Very nice winter image, Richard.
Wow, I didn’t realize they were so yellow either! Learn something new every day. Great shot! Makes me wish I had a lawn and a nice bird feeder.
